Headers and footers can include text, slide or page number, time and date and other types of information. They normally appear at the top or bottom of all slides or of selected slides.
To apply headers and footers:
- Open your presentation.
- Choose View|Header and Footer.
In the dialogue box that opens, define some of the information you want to appear in the slides. - For date and time, tick the Date and time box and define if you want to fix it (select Fixed) or to have it updated whenever you open your presentation (select the Update automatically option).
- If you want to display page or slide numbers, tick the Slide number box.
- If you want to insert footers, tick the Footer box and insert the text you want to appear at the bottom of the slides.
- At the end, click Apply to all for applying the changes to all slides or simply Apply and select the slides where you want these changes to appear.
Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
Sometimes, information may need to be inserted in the header or footer as explanations or footnotes. Moreover, it is important to be aware of these issues when translating using a TM tool as some applications may not extract the information found in headers and footers. As a result, the translator may need to edit the exported PowerPoint file.
