Do you know how to edit cell content? (17/32)

Yes

Find out

When editing cell content, you have to put the cell contents in "editing mode", before editing and validating them.

There are two ways of putting the cell contents in "editing mode".

  • Double-click the cell containing the data to be edited.
  • Alternatively, click once in the cell containing the data to be modified and then click in the formula bar to position the cursor there. If you want to start editing the cell contents from its end, click on the cell and press F2 to take the insert point to the end of the contents.

Once the content is in "editing mode" you can:

  • select the characters in the cell and use the BACKSPACE or DELETE button to delete them
  • insert characters by simply clicking where you want to insert them and type them
  • create a new line within a cell by clicking where you want to have the line break and press ALT+ENTER.

Finally, to validate or confirm the cell changes, press ENTER. If you want to cancel the changes made to the cell contents, press ESC before ENTER.

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?

Translating, editing and proofreading Excel files means editing the content of Excel cells; therefore this function is fundamental for translators.
