Do you know how to end an application which is not responding? (30/31)

Yes

Find out

Task manager

When your computer or a specific program is not responding, you can use a software utility called Task Manager to view each of the tasks or processes that are running on your computer, as well as its overall performance.

Ctrl + Alt + Delete

To access the Task Manager, press the keys CTRL + ALT + DELETE at the same time. The Task Manager can also be displayed by running the taskmgr.exe file in C:\Windows\System32 directory or by going to Start|Run, typing taskmgr in the dialog box that opens and clicking on OK.

In the different tabs of the Task manager you can view information about all the running applications, processes and tasks.

By clicking on the Applications tab, you can select the application that is no longer responding and click on End task to end that application without restarting the computer. By clicking on the Processes tab, you will be able to see all processes running on your computer and cancel those that are not responding. In case you want to find out exactly to what applications the processes running on your computer belong, there are several websites that offer you information on this, e.g. http://www.processlibrary.com/ .

The Task Manager can be also used to shut down your computer when it fails to respond. To do this, go to Task Manager|Shut down and select shut down or restart.
