Exercise 3: Creation and Maintenance of a TM - Introduction

For being able to complete the following exercise you need to have gone at least through courses I and II, included in our Translation Memory Module.

You also need to have installed on your computer DéjàVu X and Microsoft Office Word. The screen shots used to illustrate several steps of this exercise were taken from DéjàVu X.

On completion of these exercises, you should be able to:

• Create a stand-alone TM using DéjàVu X
• Import an existing TM into the newly created TM
• Maintain the TM
• Reorganize and compact the TM
• Export the TM into the standard exchange format TMX

Before starting to work with DéjàVu X, prepare your working environment by creating the folder structure you will need to save your new translation memory and the results of the TM export.

• First, create in your working folder My Documents the subfolder “CAT tools”
• Download the subfolder "Creation_Maintenance.rar" from our eCoLoTrain webpage, save it under My Documents/CAT tools and decompress it there. You will see a subfolder called "Import_TM" containing six *.tmx files for each language pair.
• Create under the folder Creation_Maintenance two new subfolders: one called "New_TM" (where you will store the new TM you will create later on during this exercise) and another one called "Export_TM" (where you will save the file containing the results from the TM export)
