Recycle Bin
If you accidentally deleted a file or folder and you have not yet emptied the Recycle Bin, you still have a good chance of restoring it. When files or folders are deleted, they are automatically sent to the Recycle Bin and are kept there until the Bin is emptied.
To recover a deleted file or folder:
- Double-click the Recycle Bin icon on your computer desktop
- Select the file or folder you want to recover
- Right-click and choose Restore from the pop-up menu
- The deleted file or folder will be restored to its initial location
Data recovery
If, on the other hand, you have already emptied the Recycle Bin, your deleted items are lost... but not definitely: There are on the market some special freeware such as Restoration (https://restoration.en.uptodown.com/windows) or PC Inspector (https://pc-inspector-file-recovery.en.uptodown.com/windows) which "save" deleted files even after having emptied the Recycle Bin. They work on the principle that the hard drive space of the deleted file is made available for use, but until the space is overwritten, the old data is intact.
