Sometimes you may want to convert the rows in your worksheets to columns and the columns to rows without altering the data. Doing it manually can be very time consuming, but Excel offers the Paste Special command, which allows you to automatically make such changes.
- Select and copy the data you want from one or more columns or rows.
- Before pasting it into the target cells, right-click the first target cell.
- Select the Paste Special option, or, from the Edit menu choose Paste Special.
- In the Paste Special dialogue box, select the appropriate options (all data in the row or column, formulas only, values only, etc.).
- Check the Transpose check box located at the lower-right corner.
- Click OK.
Make sure that columns or rows do not overlap, otherwise the action will not be performed and an error message will be displayed. The Paste Special command is available in Excel 2000 and later.
