A good project manager has to have a clear understanding of what needs to be done in terms of requirements, constraints and project objectives and what resources have to be ready for use.
The resources that come into play during a project depend on the type of translation project. Every phase of the project entails corresponding linguisticor technical resources.
7.1 Human Resources
Linguistic resources include:
- Translators – usually, the project manager will have a database with translators, their language combinations, specialised fields and rates
- Terminologists
- Revisers, reviewers and proofreaders
Technical resources include:
- DTP team in charge of preparation, graphics, layout and production in a DTP environment
- Engineers who will do the compiling, programming, and testing
- Software developers
- TM specialists
- Graphic designers
7.2 Other Resources
- Internet connections, software licences, etc.
- Online databases, translation memories and terminology databases, reference materials, alignment materials
- Project management software - such as MS Project, MS Excel or translation-specific project management tools
- Translation memory tools
- Machine translation systems, etc.
