Administrative rights
Having administrative rights enables you to perform all types of administrative tasks, such as installing or uninstalling software, working with permissions, and dealing with the setup and maintenance of the whole computer and the networks. An administrator can give a sub administrator specific rights, to perform a subset of administrative tasks within applications that the administrator specifies.
How to check the local administrative rights
In order to check your local administrative rights, go to Start|Settings|Control Panel. In the Control Panel window click on Administrative Tools|Computer Management|Local Users and Groups. Double-click on Groups and look in the Administrators group. You will be able to see if your name is displayed in the list (remember that if you are working on a public computer or under a particular user name other than the administrator, you might not be able to see the administrative information).
Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
Particularly, in translation agencies where there are several translators or teams of translators working together, computers' administrator rights become very important and must be specified.
Administrators have all rights to manage computers (from installing and uninstalling software applications, through performing specific tasks, to defining working permissions (who has access to which folders or drives, etc.), therefore there should be a translator or project manager in charge of this function.
