Do you know the difference between data and information? (5/31)

Yes

Find out

The difference between data and information is that the former is represented by a single byte or several bytes together, while the latter is the interpretation of the data. For example, the following figures are simple data:

50

20%

But , if we add context and interpret it, the data turns into information:

How many computers are there in this room?

50

How many do you use on a daily basis?

20%

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
For translators and translation teachers, the difference between data and information is important from the terminological point of view. Both terms are often mixed up though they refer to different concepts.
