About this course

This course aims to test and enhance your knowledge in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) specifically on Text Editing. It targets professional translators as well as translation and CAT teachers who want to test their ICT skills on text editing or learn more about text editing before starting to use CAT tools!

By the end of this course you should have tested your knowledge on basic concepts and tasks regarding Text Editing.

 

Course structure

  • Formatting - covering topics such as format templates, font, style, size, inserting tables, graphics and objects, inserting indexes and tables of contents, cross-references and converting tables to text
  • Document Quality Control - dealing with text editing functions particularly important for translators such as checking spelling and grammar; tracking changes in a document, comparing documents, inserting hyphenation and word counts
  • Characters - devoted to information on special characters, on converting encodings, saving documents as Unicode/UTF-8 and as web pages (.html).
  • Print files - containing information on .pdf files and some tasks such as viewing, saving .pdf files and converting .doc files into .pdf!
