It is useful to know how to insert page numbers, particularly when printing Excel worksheets.

  1. Select the worksheet or worksheets on which you want to have page numbers.
  2. From the View menu, choose Header and Footer|Custom Header or Custom Footer.
  3. Specify the location for the number by clicking inside one of the boxes Left sectionCentre section or Right section.
  4. Finally, click the page number icon  and OK.
  5. To set "1" as the number of the first page, go to the Page Setup dialogue box.
  6. Select the Page tab and type "1" in the First page number box.
  7. In the Page Setup dialogue box you will see the preview of your header and footer. This preview feature may also be useful when translating headers and footers of worksheets.

 

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
Quite often translators have to deliver translations of Excel files which are also ready for printing. They must therefore know how to insert page numbers.
