Macros are an efficient way to automate repetitive tasks, to change or to extend the functions of a L10N tools. Function keys can be assigned to macros so that they can be called at any time.
Some software localisation tools offer macros that allow users to:

- Automate recurrent tasks
- Implement user-defined checks
- Work with user-specific file formats
- Partly integrate development environments such as:
- Special editors with context-sensitive help
- Debuggers (computer programs used to test and "debug" other programs)
