Online manuals are generally online versions of the printed manuals, and if they are not exactly the same, they are very similar. The advantage they offer is that users can access them from anywhere via the Internet. However, online manuals are usually not directly linked to the application's user interface.
Online manuals are typically created in Word or FrameMaker or converted from online help formats (Esselink, 2000). Usually, they are distributed in PDF format. The translation workflow followed for online manuals is the same as for printed manuals.
