Why Terminology Management? (2/10)

Terminology Management has become an essential activity for translators since terminology is not available in traditional resources - e.g. dictionaries - and, if available in other resources such as the Internet, it is commonly not standardized.

In the process of eContent localisation – that is to say the translation and cultural adaptation for local markets of digital information (e-content) –, the same terminology should be used consistently in all product's components (e.g. the product's manuals, online help, website, etc.).

The specific terminology regarding the product is provided by customers in corporate language glossaries, which normally have to be imported into the translator's database. During the localisation process the source texts to be translated are often modified - even after being already translated - because products are being updated. Such a case can turn into an emergency without appropriate terminology management.
