When populating a TDB, it is important to take into consideration the TDB model as well as the target user group:
- in a concept-oriented TDB all terminological information belonging to one concept and all terms of the same concept in all languages must be stored in one entry. For example:
- all terminological information related to the concept personal computer including the terms PC and micro-computer has to be stored in one entry
- the terminological information describing the homonyms mouse (Biology) and mouse (IT) must be stored in two entries, because these are two different concepts
- term autonomy: All terms representing a concept have to be stored as autonomous blocks of data categories. Only in this way can all terms be described by the necessary data categories
- it is also important to take into consideration the status of the category information: e.g. mandatory or non-mandatory.
