Terminology Exercises

The following section consists of a series of exercises that cover the contents seen in the Terminology module courses. These exercises were created as models for both e-learning and face-to-face classes for translators and translation and CAT (Computer-aided Translation) tools teachers.

The exercises do not correspond exactly to a particular course in the Terminology module, but you will need the basic principles covered in the courses to complete them.

As well as the Terminology Courses, the exercises were developed based on the ideas of increasing the level of difficulty and tackling issues for beginners and intermediate users. For example:

  • Exercise I: concentrates on exploring the structure of a terminology database and on populating it with terms
  • Exercise II: guides you through the creation of a terminology database and the definition of the following concepts related to an entry: structure, index; text, pick-list fields; and interdependence between fields
  • Exercise III: focuses on defining import settings, importing terminological data into an empty termbase and exporting it again after performing a merge

At the beginning of each exercise there is a description of the exercise goals, assignments and prerequisites. The exercises can be downloaded from a link as *.pdf files to be carried out off-line or can also be done online.

Remember that these exercises were created as model exercises for terminology classes. If you do them, please do not forget to give us feedback, so we can keep on improving them. Many thanks in advance.
