Yes

Find out

The term ICT comprises the creation, storage, retrieval, manipulation, transmission and receipt of digital data, so ICT Skills are the skills needed to access computers and use computer-based technologies – computer programs and applications - as well as digital communication technologies in order to communicate and share information digitally.

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
The acceleration of available information as well as the increase in intercultural encounters have resulted in drastic and lasting changes in the way translators work (Austermühl, 2001:1 in: Fulford, H. et al, 2004:53). In times of the information age there are numerous language resources that translators can use to work. These range from word processing facilities, through dictionary look-up tools, systems for creating and managing terminology collections, to translation memory and machine translation. In order to cope with these tools and work efficiently basic knowledge on ICT is required.
