Do you know how to create a design template? (7/22)

Yes

Find out

In creating a PowerPoint presentation, ready-made designs, called existing design templates, can be applied or edited. It is also possible to create your own design template and apply it to the entire presentation or only to selected slides.

To create a design template:

  1. Click New on the standard toolbar.
  2. Go to View|Master|Slide master.
  3. In the slide master, design your template by making all the desired changes, e.g. selecting a background (Format|Background), choosing a colour (Format|Slide Design|Colour Schemes), changing fonts (Format |Font) and placeholders (by selecting and dragging them to the new position).
  4. Once you have designed your template, go to the File menu and choose Save As.
  5. In the File name box insert a name for your template.
  6. Select Design Template in the Save as type box and save your changes.
  7. Your template will then be saved in the Templates folder, which is the default folder from which users can select design templates.
  8. The next time you open PowerPoint, the newly-created design template will be available in the Slide Design task pane under Available for Use.

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
In an increasingly challenging translation market, creating design templates may be part of the translation job for translating PowerPoint presentations. For example, clients may ask the translator to localise the presentation as well as translate it, using design templates suitable for the target culture in terms of colour, fonts, symbols, animations, etc.
