Terminology Database Structure (1/6 (3))

Microstructure

The microstructure: refers to the smallest surface structure of a termbase; in other words, to the information on the properties of terms. The microstructure varies:

  • according to the type of TDB (mono-, bi- or multilingual).
  • according to the user group ("relevant" and not "available" information for translators or terminologists).

Each type of information should be represented as an individual data category. The microstructure needs first to be planned according to: the representation level (where to store the information in an entry), the number and type of categories (e.g. grammar or administrative information), and their repeatability.
