Exporting TMs (3/6)

Sometimes it is helpful to export a TM or parts of it for storing it in compact formats or for sharing. When exporting, you usually have to select the format into which you want to export the data contained in your current TM.

For example, the resulting file can be in the standard TMX-format. Some TM applications (such as Déjà Vu) offer optional formats for the data conversion in TMX – sometimes you can choose between UTF16, UTF8 and ISO-646 (7-bit file) formats.

Once the format is defined, you have to select the location and give a name to the file you are about to export.

Since you often have the possibility of exporting parts of a TM, you may be asked to select the languages of the data you want to export.

Finally, when importing or exporting, you have the option of using the so-called filters, which allow you to define a profile to select precisely those database entries containing the specific information you need. For example, you can use filters to import or export only those database entries assigned to a particular client. Filters are also important when dealing with different encodings.
