Normally, even after a translation is finished, translation reviewers and/or clients continue to make modifications and corrections to the translated texts. If the translation process is carried out professionally, the translators or translation agencies should be informed about these modifications, in order to correct their own texts, improve their quality, maintain their TMs and use the proper terminology next time.
To include the corrections and changes and update the translation database, TM applications normally offer different functions such as:
To enter and delete pairs of segments
The user can change source and target segments in a TM.
This enables searching for and showing duplicate sentence pairs in the database (duplicates).
You can merge two identical source sentences or duplicate sentences with their corresponding translation in the target language.
In DVX, this option is called Consolidate. It allows you to merge two identical source sentences with translations into different languages.
Some TM applications offer also a special function called Maintenance that allows the user to carry out some of the previously described tasks in one step (e.g. Trados).
With this Maintenance function you can, for example, edit database entries by finding and replacing them.
