Translation Memories 3

Types of repetition (internal vs. external) (2/8)

Analysis modules usually also calculate repetitions, which are often counted separately from exact matches

Exact matches are matches between the text which is analysed and the TM. These matches are available from the beginning of the translation, because they had been entered into the TM in former projects. Therefore, these matches are sometimes also called external repetitions

Internal repetitions (sometimes also called duplicates) are segments occurring more than once within the same document. They have to be translated when they occur for the first time. Thereafter, they are available as exact matches from the TM and/or they are automatically inserted as a translation every time the source segment is repeated (this feature is also called propagation).
