Do you know how to select one or more files? (15/31)

Yes

Find out

In the My computer window or the Windows Explorer window, select one file or folder by simply clicking its icon once (you can also use the tab button and the arrows to move within the items in the Explorer window until you reach the file you want to select). The blue highlight shows you that the file or folder is selected. Proceed to Rename, Move, Copy, Cut or Delete it by choosing the appropriate command (right-click on the selected file or folder to see these options). (Once the file is selected, press F2 to rename it; Ctrl C to copy it; Ctrl X to cut it, Ctrl V to paste it and del to delete it).

Sometimes, to save time, you may want to select more than one file or folder at the same time and then proceed to Move, Copy, Cut or Delete them. To do this, locate the files or folders you want to move, click on one of them, then press and hold the Ctrl key - without releasing it - while clicking on the rest of the icons of the different files or folders you want to select. (To select several files, select first one as described above, then hold the Shift key and select the desired files using the arrows).

Why is this information important for translators and translation teachers?
Translators and translation teachers working or intending to work with computer-aided translation tools - such as translation memories, terminology management tools, project management tools or software localisation tools, among others - need to know how to select not only one but more than one file or folder at the same time. When creating translation projects, translation memories, terminology databases or when performing some processes such as terminology extraction, etc. with these tools, several files that belong together are created. Sometimes translators need to move these files or folders to other folders, e.g. in order to keep a clear folder structure, and then it really can save time and effort, when they are able to select more than one file at the same time.
